How an SEO Roadmap Sparks Massive Growth

Ever feel like your marketing efforts are limited to sticking a camera in your face and going live just because everyone else and their dog is? And you’ve been told it’s the only way to market your business.

Yet you spent all that money and time on creating an amazing website with killer offers, and you’ve got enough personality to charm the most haughty of cats, but crickets are chirping in your analytics… 🦗

Let me ask you right now: Why did you build out that incredible website just to be chasing leads on Socials? Social networks don’t like you clicking away from them – so it’s not in their interests to send your potential customers off the socials and to your site. Make it make sense!

An SEO audit is like a website makeover, first we apply a good dollop of cleanser so we can see what’s really lurking underneath, then we apply a good foundation – but, instead of lipstick and a new dress, we’re giving your site the code equivalent of a killer outfit and a VIP pass to Google’s hottest party.

Oh… but it’s not even just about Google anymore – with Bing, ChatGPT et al snapping at its heels – now more than ever you need your website to be seen.

An audit gives you a chance to dust off those digital dust bunnies with a personalised SEO Roadmap and embrace the power of SEO so that your business gets seen by the right people because scrollers gonna scroll… buyers use Search Engines when they’re actively looking to solve a problem.

Why You Need an SEO Audit:

Most of my clients know “something is off” with their website – and, they’ve got a fair idea because they’ve got eyes! But… they’re not code nerds and so don’t understand why. The most common problems – and the ones which make people think “oh, my site sucks” are…

Your website’s traffic is flatter than a pancake:

Honey, if your website traffic resembles a deserted island, an audit can uncover why Google’s giving you the cold shoulder. And we all know cold-shouldered fashion hasn’t been en vogue for years!

If you’ve got your site hooked up to GA4 (Google Analytics) or GSC (Google Search Console) then you’ve got some access to visitor information. Meaning, you know roughly how many people are visiting your site and where they’re coming from.

The red flags come from having very very few visitors to your site (because it’s just not getting found) – or, those that do come to your site come from a small audience on socials.

Your website runs slower than a snail in stilettos:

Ain’t nobody got time for a slow website! An audit can help you speed things up and keep visitors from bouncing faster than a bad date.

If your site doesn’t fully load within 2-3 seconds, they’re bouncing. Ugh… hard lesson learned the hard way believe me. 🙁 It’s usually down to hosting – but, it could be the theme you’re running on the website – there’s only one way to find out.

Your website looks like a dinosaur on a smartphone:

In the age of on-the-go browsing, a mobile-friendly website is non-negotiable. An audit can help you avoid the dreaded ‘pinch and zoom’ struggle.

Most website builders these days are automatically mobile-optimised – but, that doesn’t mean you or your designer didn’t fuck up somewhere along the build.

You’re targeting keywords that even your grandma wouldn’t search for:

Keywords are the magic words that unlock online visibility. An audit can help you find the terms your dream clients are actually using – and, we start by uncovering the “low-hanging fruit” so that you can get ranked early – and then we can build on that.

Generally blogs and teachings which tell you what to write about and which keywords to target are vague and unfocused. They’re not really looking at your business – just a general “throw shit in the air and see what happens”.

We need to focus on keywords you can realistically rank for within a shorter timeframe.

PS You’re not going to rank for “my productivity system” at your Bottom of Funnel.

You’re clueless about your competition (and they might be stealing your clients!):

Keep your friends close and your competitors closer. An audit can reveal what they’re doing right (and how you can do it better).

Knowing what’s really going on with your competition is eye-opening 😮 – what seems glittery on the surface isn’t often gold. (Here are some of the SEO mistakes big name coaches are making.) Want to know if they’re really as successful as they claim to be? Or is it just a game of smoke and mirrors, cool branding, clever copy and a huge ad budget? Let’s dive in and see.

It’s also an opportunity to discover who’s not on your radar – but should be!

Your website’s SEO is stuck in the Stone Age:

If your website’s last SEO update was when dial-up was a thing, it’s time for a serious refresh. An audit can bring you into the 21st century (and beyond!).

As I typed that I could almost hear that modem sound. 😀 CRO (Conversion Rate Optimisation) needs to be looked at with an experienced eye to blend modern marketing (client) expectations, a good dollop of buyer psychology – and fluent tech systems.

What an SEO Audit Covers (in plain English):

Technical SEO:

The behind-the-scenes stuff that makes your website Google-friendly (think code, sitemaps, SSL certificates, robots and all that jazz). If Google can’t even read your code or access your site then it’s not going to be able to rank it.

On-Page SEO:

Making sure your website content is optimized for keywords, readability, and overall fabulousness. Fabulousness matters. Fabulousness always matters.

Word of warning: They say you should write like a journalist – i.e., write in a way a 12 year old can understand. I get that – I truly do – but, there’s a difference between making your copy easily digestible – and dumbing your shit down too much. When you’re offering professional services you need to sound professional – and like you’ve got a brain between your ears! 😉

Off-Page SEO:

Building your online reputation and getting other websites to link to yours (like a popularity contest, but for websites – and you don’t need to do your hair and make-up first).

This can include the dreaded Social Media, but also it means building backlinks to your site through the use of Digital PR. It used to be that the comments section below blogs were great for back-building, but Google have seen through such a ruse and you won’t be rewarded for that anymore.

The Benefits of an SEO Audit (because who doesn’t love a good brag?):

Improved search engine rankings:

Get ready to climb those Google rankings like the queen you are! Because really, what’s the point of doing all the hard work of analysing, fixing and building new if you’re not rising in the SERPs?

Increased organic traffic:

Say hello to a flood of new visitors who are actually interested in what you offer. I’m a firm believer in scrollers scroll and buyers use Search Engines. People who are ready to whip out the creditcard go to Google and do their research.

Organic traffic is the Holy Grail of traffic because it means people are finding you without you getting up in their faces on Socials or with ads. It works for you 24/7 as a lead-generating machine.

Better user experience:

Optimise your CRO and create a website that’s so easy to navigate, even your tech-challenged aunt can find what she needs.

Again, this needs an experienced eye and knowledge of what works – and what doesn’t. As marketing trends evolve, what worked a few years ago might not fly now with savvy consumers.

Enhanced brand credibility:

A well-optimized website screams ‘I’m a professional!’ and builds trust with your audience.

Pooh pooh to all those ‘guru influencers’ who are still – in 2024 saying “you don’t need a website to build your business”. I call BS. Nobody, but nobody is hiring a professional without a good website. I cannot comprehend the train-of-thought which suggests you don’t need a great website these days (some even say none at all!).

OK, I totally get that if you’re ‘bricks and mortar’ in a closed environment – e.g., I live on a tiny island and the local DIY store doesn’t need a fancy-shmancy website because we all know where they are and what they do.

When you’re running an online business and serving international visitors remotely – then you need a damned good website!

Increased leads and sales:

Cha-ching! Watch your business grow as more people discover your amazing offerings. Because this is what it’s all about. When you elevate your brand’s visibility you get more leads, more sales and more revenue. Simple as that!
